These women from the slum are indeed beautiful, all decked up to walk the ramp. They all are giving a message, a very strong one.
I was taken aback by this awful incident.
I was shocked and angry when i came across a text book while our volunteers of Humans For Humanity were teaching at the Nizamuddin slum in New Delhi almost 3 years ago. The text book referred to a fair girl as beautiful & a girl with brown skin ugly. (Picture attached below) Now if this is what we are teaching our children no wonders why Fair & Lovely is the most popular skin product in India, making billions of dollars from our country. Though the society seems to be changing a bit, the education system, our so called politicians should be held responsible for the same. There are so many things that are influenced by the British and solely followed as a rule in our country but its high time we reform these foolish concepts/ideology & mend our ways. If this is what a student of LKG is studying, i wont blame him/her if later found guilty in a case of bullying, discrimination, rude behaviour towards others, or may be even going through an inferiority complex which leads to depression and many other issues. Today i urge to you all to check the textbooks of your children and go through then in order to make sure such blunders aren’t happening anymore, just in case there is any such case, feel free to write to us.
The pictures below are of an event i was invited to as Chief Guest in Ludhiana, organised by RK Communications headed by Amarjeet Kaur
